I've never lived in a city with better (and cheaper) thrift stores than Houston. The supply is plentiful and there's so many stores to choose from. See my official list below ordered from cheapest to most expensive.
Thrift Outlets
These are my absolute favorite, but it's not for the faint at heart. This is where all the clothes that don't sell within a certain amount of time go for one last try before being discarded. At Family Thrift Outlet, every item in the store is one price depending on the day that you go. It ranges from $2 day which is the highest to $.25 day which is the lowest... but you can't even get much lower than that. At the Goodwill Outlet "The Bins" you have to wait behind a white line and wait for attendants to wheel out these blue bins full of clothing and accessories. It's like a game show because you can't cross the line until they say, Go.
Locations: Little York, Hillcroft, Gessner, Long Point
Thrift Stores
These are the type of second hand stores that have clothing organized by type and size. They are reasonably priced and often have some type of daily sales either by tag color or by day of the week. There are so many of these stores in Houston that I'm sure you can find one close to you.
Mid Priced Consignment Stores
If you want your thrift experience to be more like shopping retail, then you're looking for a consignment shop. This is where you can go to buy or sale gently used trendy clothing.
Designer Consignment
If you looking for designer handbags and clothing, but don't want to pay full price try these stores. They're always updating their selection and you'll get the best second hand experience possible.
If you live in a different city, do a quick Google Search for any of these categories and I'm sure you can find one near you.
