Our 6-week Introduction to Sewing course is designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident sewist. Over the course of six weeks, you will gain essential sewing skills, learn to use a sewing machine, and complete a variety of projects that will set a strong foundation for all your future sewing endeavors. Week 1: Getting Started * Introduction to the sewing machine: parts and functions * Threading the machine and winding the bobbin * Basic sewing terminology and tools * Hands-on practice: sewing straight lines and curves Week 2: Essential Stitches * Mastering basic stitches: straight stitch, zigzag stitch, and more * Understanding stitch length and tension adjustments * Practice stitching on different fabrics * Simple project: creating a fabric bookmark Week 3: Understanding Patterns and Fabric * Reading and interpreting sewing patterns * Choosing the right fabric for your projects * Cutting fabric accurately * Hands-on project: sewing a simple tote bag Week 4: Seams and Finishing Techniques * Different types of seams: plain seam, French seam, and more * Finishing techniques: hemming and seam finishes * Using pins and fabric markers for precision * Project: making a pillowcase with a neat finish Week 5: Adding Details * Inserting zippers and making buttonholes * Attaching buttons and other fastenings * Decorative stitches and embellishments * Project: creating a zippered pouch Week 6: Final Project and Review * Combining all learned techniques in a final project * Individual guidance and troubleshooting * Review of key concepts and techniques * Final project: sewing a simple garment (e.g., a skirt or pajama pants) Why Join This Course? * Hands-On Learning: Each class is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience with personalized guidance from experienced instructors. * Comprehensive Curriculum: Our structured syllabus ensures you build a solid foundation, covering everything from basic stitches to advanced finishing techniques. * Supportive Environment: Learn in a friendly, supportive atmosphere with fellow sewing enthusiasts. However, the class may fill up before in-person registration days so register as soon as possible to secure your spot. Registration Rules: 1. First Come, First Served: Spots in each class are limited to ensure personalized attention. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. 2. Payment: Full payment is required at the time of registration to secure your spot in the class. 3. Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, please notify us at least 72 hours in advance for a full refund. No-shows will not be refunded. 4. Attendance: Please ensure you can attend all scheduled sessions of the course. Consistent attendance is crucial for your progress and the smooth running of the class. 5.
